Economics

Junior Achievement Economics is a one-semester or full-year course in which students examine the economic system , explore business operations, study the emerging global economy and acquire knowledge and skills necessary to function as competent citizens, workers and consumers

  • Full-Year Program 32-36 weeks

  • Number of hours per week 2-3 hours

  • Target Age Group 6-12

Objectives

  • Describe basic economic problems and the nature of the free enterprise system

  • Describe the price system, illustrates how supply and demand interact to establish market prices and allocate resources and explores consumer-related issues

  • Examine the role of entrepreneurs and how businesses are organized and financed. Explore production, productivity, market structure, and market strategies

  • Examine the role of labor, governments and the federal reserve banking system in country

Methodology

A combination of traditional theory with practical hands-on activities supported by software programs and the presence of a volunteer business consultant. Activities include: discussions, games, video projection, creative activities, tests, questionnaires, team work, role plays.
