Personal Economics

The program helps students assess their personal skills and interests, explore career options, learn job-hunting skills and discover the value of an education. Students also learn about budgets, personal and family financial management and the use and abuse of credit

  • Students learn the importance of meeting and greeting business associates professionally

  • Students complete a life map of Career Interest Inventory

  • Students identify personal interests and skills and relate them to job opportunities

  • Students learn about career clusters and play Job Shuffle a career-awareness card game

  • Students with similar interests relate their career goals to specific education requirements

  • Students discover sources of employment information

  • Student discuss the employee characteristics employers want and evaluate a job interview

  • Students use hypothetical information to develop a personal budget for a typical teenager

  • Students develop a monthly family budget

  • Students study different saving and investing opportunities from savings accounts to common stock

  • Students analyze advertisements and compare values as they make purchasing decisions

  • Students discuss the costs and benefits of using credit. Emphasis on the Three C´s of Credit-capacity, collateral and character

Methodology

A combination of traditional theory with practical hands-on activities supported by software programs and the presence of a volunteer business consultant. Activities include: discussions, games, video projection, creative activities, tests, questionnaires, team work, role plays.
